Episode 2: a phone call mid-film, then a story at bedtime
The second episode starts partway through the film and turns physical almost immediately, though Riley gives him an easy way out and the scene goes no further. Then the phone goes off. Dad phones to see how things are going while the stepson sits right there, and Riley takes the call calmly, telling her husband that she and the boy are getting on well. Asked once more to go easy on the studying, she answers that the boy is learning plenty.
Bedtime brings a story from Riley, who sits down next to him and makes one up about a young man kept awake by a stepmom who keeps wandering about in silk. He objects that none of this is in the book. Riley lets him say stop one more time, he stays quiet, and the episode closes with her telling him to lie back, a lesson on the way.
